No Magic

praying-handsA friend of mine just lost another important person in her life. That makes three since last summer for her. She is reeling.

There are all the usual cliches to say, of course. They are even true.

But they feel empty, too. Or at least I feel inadequate in saying them.

It is important to realize that none of us can remove the pain, or even really soothe the soul.

I can be with her, to share her pain so it feels a little less intense, and be as open as I can to be a channel of God’s love for her, to serve as a beacon of God’s light in the shadows of her soul. God is the real soother, the balm in Gilead.

I don’t have any magic. Just love.

Help me, God, to offer, to share, to be, your love with my friend.
